You can wear this mala on the wrist by wrapping it around 3 times or you can wear this mala as a necklace.
This mala is made of 108 skull shaped howlite beads. In hinduism and buddhism, skulls are often depicted as a metaphor of the ever changing cycle of life. Indian gods can often be seen wearing necklaces made of human skulls (see Kali or Sheeva). Those skulls also serve them as a protection because they scare the forces of evil away.
